About Arley

Arley's history

We will continue to strive to provide Service, Selection and Stability for the industry and live up to the entrepreneurial vision of Irving Levy by standing behind his mottos:
  • Be honorable in everything you do.
  • Live up to your agreements…your word is your bond.
  • Be loyal to your suppliers and customers, they are the backbone of your business.

The family of Arley Wholesale, Inc. employees appreciates the support of our company and thanks you for the opportunity to earn your business!

In 1935, Irving Levy moved from Brooklyn, NY to Scranton, PA and opened a small paint store serving wholesale and retail customers. As markets shifted, he transitioned the business into linoleum flooring and later Formica® countertop laminates. Partnering with Franklin Arndt, they formed a new corporation — and Arley Wholesale was born, officially leaving the paint business behind.

By the 1960s, the second generation — Saul Levy and Norman Gevanthor — expanded into wholesale carpet distribution across Pennsylvania and New York. Seeing new opportunities, Arley added ceramic tile to its product line, led by Arlene Gevanthor, who also managed the corporate showroom that remains a cornerstone of our business today.

In the 1990s, the third generation — Scott Levy, Bruce Gevanthor, and Robert Gevanthor — helped drive the next phase of growth. Long-term employees moved into leadership roles, with Jim Lewis and Ed Donley becoming Regional Vice Presidents and joining the Executive Board. By 1999, Arley exited the carpet business to focus entirely on tile, stone, waterproof flooring, and installation materials — a decision that positioned the company as a leader across the East Coast.

In 2025, Arley Wholesale entered a new era. With Scott Levy assuming full ownership, the company adopted a unified, agile leadership model built for today’s complex business environment. This change marked not an ending, but the continuation of Arley’s journey — stronger, faster, and more innovative.

Today, Arley builds on more than 90 years of history with a clear focus on the future. The company is guided by the principles of Service, Selection, and Stability, with Innovation at the core of its strategy. This includes the exclusive brand Qualis Ceramica as well as sustainable solutions like PVC-free flooring. Arley’s mission is to honor its legacy while shaping the future of the industry.
